Vehicle History
In 1998 the Defender was given a new lease of life with the introduction of the TD5 engine. More powerful than the model it superseded, the TD5 was a giant leap forward in technology with its control systems, engine management, ABS brakes, and traction control. There were enhancements in comfort for the first time too, with a new dash center panel and what were considered to be luxury items of the time such as electric front windows and heated front seats. Respected by Twisted for its tuning possibilities, the TD5 was the best version of the Defender you could buy.

To celebrate its heritage and history, this vehicle was sourced from the Netherlands, a left-hand-drive 110 TD5 Station Wagon which is currently undergoing an extensive transformation with a full Twisted Revival build.

The Process
Our Master Technicians have dismantled it into its component parts and meticulously inspected every item. The chassis is being restored and protected while the body is being painted in the original Coniston Green, painstakingly reassembled with particular detail given to panel alignment. It’s then sealed against water ingress, soundproofed and sound deadened before being lined with our premium black carpet.

The engine is disassembled, thoroughly inspected, and completely rebuilt and the driveline upgraded with new driveshafts, half shafts and differentials. Our Twisted developed intercooler, stainless steel exhaust, hybrid turbocharger and engine remap are added taking the car from its original; 122hp to 210hp. Stopping power has not been forgotten, and our 6 pot front and 4 pot rear brakes have been installed giving a massive upgrade over the standard Land Rover offerings. The original 5 cylinder TD5 engine provides the most wonderful and unmistakable soundtrack.

To retain as much originality as possible, our trim shop will use the original seats with new seat foams throughout, trimmed with Biscuit leather. The dash binnacle surrounds and support bar are painted in Coniston green. The original headlining and sun visors were retrimmed with Alcantara. The final modern touch inside is a full audio upgrade including an appropriate single din head unit which includes satellite navigation and Bluetooth connectivity.

Finished in Coniston Green paint with contrasting Chawton White roof and our Rostyle alloy wheels, externally the vehicle includes a subtle but extensive series of upgrades including LED headlights and tail lights, our Twisted designed front bumper incorporating Lazer LED daytime running lights and driving lamps. Our Twisted Stage one front end, inspired by the 1970’s Land Rover V8 which includes 8mm stainless steel mesh front, side, wing top and horn grills finished in satin black paint as well as Series III headlamp surrounds painted in matching body color.

True to its origins but ready for the new world. A glimpse of its past, waiting for new adventures to be made.
